2013 Winter Family Carnival

Yesterday was a   b e a u t i f u l   day here in St. Louis. I’m not sure, but we may have set a record for high temps in January. Three awesome things happened yesterday. I got to see some old friends, the Blues won their first game of the season, and Fifth Third Bank hosted the Winter Family Carnival in Soulard. With such amazing weather, we had a great turnout! Inflatables, crafts, music and a parade for the kids, the Winter Family Carnival is always a family favorite event during Mardi Gras season! I’m posting a few photos and the video from the day. Hope you enjoy!

Also, don’t forget to check the Mardi Gras Inc website for a listing of events!

Tiny Tuesday 1.15.13 {and a cat}

Happy Tuesday to you! It’s a cold one today and I thought about cheating on my Tiny Tuesday challenge. I didn’t want to go outside so I was thinking about pulling some old photos off the hard drive to pass off today, but I didn’t and I am very glad! Everything outside is frosted over and these shots were worth the 10 minutes out in the yard. And since I’ll be trapped at my desk today and tomorrow, it was nice to be out in the sunlight, even for just a few minutes.

I’ve also thrown in a few shots of one VERY spoiled cat. He likes this cold weather about as much as I do.

St. Louis Mardi Gras | Snowman Softball

I don’t pretend to know much about softball, I’m a hockey/football kind of girl myself, but it looks like a ton of fun!! I remember Snowman Softball from last year. It was bitter cold and the ball fields in Forest Park were covered in a thick layer of ice. You couldn’t run the bases, you had to skate and slide. This year the challenge was mud. Calf deep in some places! You have to admire the dedication of these players! Before I show you the photos I wanted to urge you to go to http://www.mardigrasinc.com to check out a listing of events for the rest of the season. Mardi Gras in St. Louis is about way more than just the Grand Parade! On Saturday, January 19th, Fifth Third Bank presents the SSM Cardinal Glennon Family Winter Carnival! This is a 100% family friendly Mardi Gras event! Inflatables, crafts, entertainment, all in a huge heated tent. It opens at 11am. The kids can decorate their own masks, crowns and capes. At 4pm the children get to walk in their own parade through the streets of Soulard! Go to the website for details!

And now for a few of my favorite images from yesterday, and a video!

(as always, all of the photos I took from yesterday can be seen on my website, http://www.rivercityimagesstl.com! Did I catch you?)

Opening Day is coming soon for one couple…

My maternity session yesterday with these sports fans was just too much fun! Add some crazy, curious cats and I think a great time was had by all! (By the way, this is probably my most favorite maternity session to date. I adore life-style photography so much more than the formal kind. Add a relaxed, home environment and I’m in heaven!) Thanks for welcoming me into your home you guys! I can’t wait to meet that sweet baby when he/she gets here!

Now I’ll stop yammering and get to the good stuff…

Happy Birthday & Tiny Tuesday 1.8.13

First off, Happy Birthday to my Dad! He turns super old today. (Ok, 61 isn’t THAT old…)

Second, it’s Tuesday! Let’s hear it for tiny objects!!!

These blog posts remind me of the Littles… Does anyone else remember them??? The teeny tiny family? (This is the part where I want to say how I think it would be cool to be teeny-tiny, but I don’t want to encourage short jokes so I will just stay silent.)

So here is my Tiny Tuesday shot for today! It’s what I imagine my view would be of my favorite carnival game, if I were a member of the Little family… Such a fun thought!

12th Night in St. Louis

From January 6th until Fat Tuesday (February 12th), I eat, sleep and dream Mardi Gras. It’s a great time to live in St. Louis! We sure know how to party!

Our Mardi Gras Season kicks off every year on January 6th. 12th Night

But what is 12th Night? Here is a blurb from Mardi Gras Inc

The Board of Directors will be accepting petitions from krewes, civic, business and neighborhood leaders, all requesting them to declare the start of the new Mardi Gras season.

Petitioning can be a reading, a poem, a skit, a song, a puppet show, love letters, or any conveyance you wish to get your message to the board. The basic message is “WE WANT TO HAVE MARDI GRAS THIS YEAR!!!” It is all fun and your participation is encouraged.

How fun is that?!?! After the petitions are heard and beverages consumed, the crowd gathers in front to hear the Board give the nod to starting another season! A band plays and the party takes to the streets to spread the word to all of the fine Soulard establishments. The party ends at Soulard Market Park for speeches, proclamations and fireworks. The Mardi Gras flag is raised and the people cheer!

Last night was wonderful and I have the photos to prove it!

I’ll be posting a video soon.

Tiny Tuesday, but on a Wednesday…

You know how it is. The kids are out of school. You’ve been having leftover Christmas cookies and egg nog instead of real meals. Sleep in, stay up late…

I believe I posted yesterday to check back today for a Tiny Tuesday. I failed to realize (due in part to the reasons listed above) that yesterday was Tuesday and today is Wednesday.

Good job!

So I would like to share with you our first installment of Tiny Tuesday.

Please keep in mind that I don’t have a macro lens, so you aren’t going to see anything like that. These are just some close up shots that I get while I’m out and about in the world. Like some snow collected on a branch. Enjoy!

Happy New Year!!!

I can honestly say that I’ve never been big on resolutions, but I decided to give it a try this year! Like maybe a new blog post every week? Or a video blog once a month? I’ll give it my best a shot.

Starting this new year in a new place, with new people and new situations has been quite a challenge. There is still so much work to be done that it gets difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good thing I’m up for challenges!

So on this first day of a new year I thought I would share my resolution word cloud. If you know me well, then you know that I’m a sucker for word clouds. LOVE them! So I whipped this one up this morning to share with you here!

I hope that you are having a fantastic start to 2013. And I want to remind everyone that you can make changes and fresh starts at any time of the year! Decide what you want, plot a path to that goal and hustle!

Check the blog tomorrow for our first installation of “Tiny Tuesdays!” I’ll be showcasing teeny tiny things. Sounds cute, right? We shall see!
