Balloons that Glow!

The Great Forest Park Balloon Race takes place in St. Louis every September. The night before the big race is the Balloon Glow. The balloons assemble on one of the fields, inflate, and then light up the night sky. It’s really neat to watch.

This year I took the kids and it was fine at first, but my little one was really freaked out by the burners and all the fire so we had to leave before all the balloons inflated. I did get a few photos from the evening. I hope that he’ll be willing to go next year.

So that was the evening. No tripod, low shutter speeds, aps wide open. That’s the way I love to shoot. Maybe next year I’ll get to stick around a bit longer.

That’s how many flags are standing on Art Hill in Forest Park today. To stand there, to take in the sight and know why those flags stand there, I have no words to explain that feeling. I’m a photographer, not a writer. So I’ll do what I do best. I’ll show you my thoughts and feelings.

Puddle Jumping

I love the rain. I’ll run in it, I’ll play in it, I’ll sit by the window and just watch it. It’s calm, soothing, and makes me want to take a nap. Or jump in puddles. The kids and I did just that this afternoon and had a blast. I didn’t get any pictures of that because I was too busy participating. Sometimes, as a photographer, you get so wrapped up in catching life instead of living it. We had fun, then I got the camera out. The way that the rain drops would cling to a leaf or branch, so tenacious, before letting go. Amazing. Here are a few of the things that caught my eye today…
